Turn Your Home into a Smart Home

Smart home technology doesn't have to cost an arm and leg anymore! Anyone can turn their home into a smart home quickly. It's not just the Millennials and Gen Ys desiring a home with technology that keeps them secure and connected, it also the Baby Boomers who are looking for more convenience in their lives. Remember, it is this generation who invented the computer!

Connecting devices to your smart phone can save energy, money, and time. There are four categories of smart devices:

  • Utilities - Thermostat, light bulbs, sprinkler, electrical outlet, ceiling fan, stove, washer and dryer, powered window shades, etc.

  • Safety - Wireless key entry, doorbell, garage door, outdoor lighting, etc.

  • Security - Burglar alarm, smoke alarm, carbon monoxide detector, or any sensor that triggers a call for emergency assistance.

  • Audio / Visual - Personal assistant such as Alexa or Siri, TVs, music, etc.

With today’s technology available and more affordable to consumers, it can be pretty easy to get started without too much out of pocket. The big box home improvement centers carry a plethora of smart home devices, such as Home Depot and Lowe's. If you have already invested in Amazon's Echo series (Alexa), you can connect devices to your Echo devices. The best smart home device I've recently used in one of my homes was the garage door device that you can use on your car blue tooth as well! No more little boxes with a button to push!
